Invisalign Q & A

Cattafesta Family & Cosmetic Dentistry

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a revolutionary tooth-alignment system that replaces uncomfortable, unsightly traditional metal braces with nearly invisible plastic aligners. Every one or two weeks, you’re given a new set of custom aligners that are adjusted slightly to gradually shift your teeth into the correct position.

Dr. Cattafesta is a preferred Invisalign provider, meaning he has received special training to correct:

  • Overbites and underbites
  • Crossbites and open bites
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Twisted teeth

He can also fix other alignment issues or just make your teeth straighter overall.

Why should I choose Invisalign?

Invisalign aligners have clear advantages over other systems, including the fact that they’re made from clear, soft material. Other benefits include:

  • They’re shaped to your individual gum line
  • They’re removable for eating or brushing
  • They’re comfortable
  • They straighten teeth up to 50% faster than other systems
  • They’re covered by many insurance companies

Invisalign is also guaranteed. If you’re not happy after six months, you can switch to traditional braces at no extra cost.

What is the process of an Invisalign treatment?

First, Dr. Cattafesta takes a 3D digital scan of your teeth. Then he maps out a treatment plan and shows you what they’ll look like at the end of treatment. Then, Dr. Cattafesta sends the scan to the Invisalign lab, where your aligners are created.

The average patient gets around 25 sets of aligners. Your case could require more or less. Every one to two weeks, you’ll switch to a new set of slightly adjusted aligners, which will gradually shift your teeth into position. You should leave them in place for 20 to 22 hours per day, taking them out only to eat, floss and brush your teeth. Most men, women, and teens will get a healthy new smile within one to two years.

How do I take care of my Invisalign aligners?

Brush your Invisalign aligners with toothpaste and warm — not hot — water while you’re brushing your teeth, or use the Invisalign cleaning system.

Just remember to change to a new set of aligners every one to two weeks as directed by Dr. Cattafesta. If you’re forgetful, Invisalign Teen® features a compliance dot on the aligners that turns blue when you need to switch to a new set.
